The Body Doesn’t Lie
What does your body reveal about you?
Our bodies are a collection of our beliefs and values, and they don’t lie – period.
You say you value the bench press over all other exercises? It shows in your rounded upper back posture, shortness of your pec’s, arms hanging in front of your body, excessively internally rotated arms, etc. Easy to spot without a word spoken.
This discussion could go in a lot of directions.
For example, a disease in some circles is believed to be a ‘dis-ease’ we have with certain aspects of ourselves. The symptom, the dis-ease, is a signal to address the issue within oneself. There are some great books available if you wish to investigate this further.
However, I’m going to keep it focused on what a persons body reveals about their training.
Let’s look at one aspect of the way you stand:
- What direction do your feet point when standing?
- Is one foot in front of the other?
- Is your weight primarily on your heels, forefoot or evenly distributed?
Based on your response to these questions, what’s your body communicating to you?
Projecting forward in your training, is your current posture going to help or hinder your injury status and performance down the track?
If you’ve decided to make a change, what’s the first one and what’s your plan to retain it long term?
